These portraits are created using flowers, leaves and rainwater from the fractured forests that these people protect.
Misiones Argentina is one of the world’s “Biodiversity hotspots.”
With only 1% of Argentinas landmass, the province holds an estimated 52% or more of the country’s biodiversity.
But natural habitat is fragmented across Misiones in 105 separate Provincial, National and private parks. The other half of Misiones is privately owned.
These are the scientists, politicians and park guards protecting this splintered landscape and the increasingly threatened wildlife that call it home.
Each portrait above is an experiment, shot on film and developed by hand on location using a home brewed solution of local flowers, leaves and rainwater.
This portrait series was created alongside a project focused on conservation efforts in Misiones Argentina. Financial support came from independent donors. Access and logistical support came from the Ministro de Ecología y Recursos Naturales Renovables, Proyecto Zorro Pitoco and Fundacion Vida Silvestre.
